What is housing for a cricut?

i read that you can use the cricut cake machine for scrapbooking if you get a paper mat, deep cut blade and housing. what is housing? and what does it do?

The housing is what the blade goes in and you shouldn’t need a deep-cut blade just the regular blade should work. I have the regular cricut so I haven’t tried using the cricut cake but the deep-cut blade is designed for thick materials not regular paper.

Once you use it for paper though I wouldn’t use it for food unless you scrub it really good and don’t care if you get paper in your icing.

Can I use the Cricut Cake for Scrapbooking?

The cake does everything the Expression does so they say but can I cut paper with it. Most reviews I read said they wouldn’t try it for sanitary reasons. In that case are there diff blades etc. I can purchase to be able to use the cake for scrapping? Pls help. Thanks.

i read the same thing about the cricut expression cake. you just need a the deep cut blade. and i also read (although i forget the blog… i found it on stumbleupon.) you also need to purchase the paper cutting mat (if you don’t already have one)

Cricut personal cutter vs. Cricut Expression?

Hello! I am considering purchasing a Cricut machine, and I’m not sure whether to go with the personal cutter or the Cricut Expression cutter. Can you use the same cartridges for both cutters? Is the personal cutter easily portable? I’d like to have something small enough for taking with me when scrapbooking at friends houses or at a crop weekend. Any advice anyone could provide would be extremely helpful- thanks!

both are easily portable (compact and light weight)
no, the cartridges are different
i love my expression, but i have heard that the personal one is less expensive in the long run (due to cartridge prices)

Is the "cricut" machine right for me?

so i am debating i am a kinda new scrabooker i just started about 2 years ago and i saw the cricut and it looks really complicated and i dont know price is ok for me but i am just curious should i get it and what does it do and also does it make scrapbooking eaiser and if you have any cricut stories about the machine and how much you loove it i would love to hear them. i just dont know if i should buy it i guess you could say i am kinda skepticle about it. so please people help me decide should i or should i not?

My mom owns a Cricut and I have played with it, a lot! It really isn’t that complicated to use.

What it does is make die cuts of things that you can’t normally find in stores or are costly if you buy them rather than using your own card stock. There are cartridges out there for just about anything from gardening to the armed forces to Disney characters.

It doesn’t really make scrapbooking easier, but it does allow you to be more creative with your pages. I would say that it is a good investment for a person who scrapbooks avidly or DIY’s a lot of things such as invitations, cards, posters etc.

What to bring over to someones house (scrap booking)?

My aunt short noticed me, and i am going over to her house to scrapbook, i just started scrapbooking, i got a cricut for christmas, i have alot of scrapbooking stuff, but what i dont have is photos and ideas for a scrap book, what are some good things to bring over? should i just bring all my stuff over? i have no photos, no ideas…. PLEASE HELP! im going over to her house tomorrow morning.

Okay, no pictures we can work with this. If you are new to scrapbooking and your machine, small projects are the best way to get you in the swing of things. Cards are wonderful because if one looks bad just throw it away it didn’t take too long. You can make Valentines cards, easter or mothers day they are all right around the corner! Now your cricut cartridges might have the option to make you a card but I think you should hand make things.

All you need is paper, adhesive and paper trimmer/sisscors as well as you cricut supplies. I personally have been card making for quite sometime and now prefer it over regular scrapbooking. I own a scrapbooking store and I talk with my customers and we all agree card making is a quick easy way to get on a roll with being creative!

I hope you are able to make some wonderful creations tomorrow. It is a wonderful hobby that really enjoy!

can i use my cricut cake for paper scrapbooking?

ok so heres the thing i already have the cricut cake machine and LOVE it. i ordered the expression online as i live in hawaii and get a better deal online, i had to return the first one because it was malfunctioned and now the second one was malfunctioned upon 1st start up, this leaves me very frustrated. so i did kind of test my cricut cake machine for cutting paper ( yes i did change the blade because its just gross using the same blade to cut food and paper) and it seems to work just fine as long as i have the pressure set to high. does anyone else use their cricut cake for scrapbooking…i just hate to order the expressions for a 3rd time to mostly likely malfunction due to poor shipping. thanks for any info ladies!

There are some great pieces of information here:

There seem to be definite food safety reasons NOT to cut paper with your Cricut Cake. Scroll down to c.louise’s answer to see what I mean.

Someone else points out that chemicals in the paper could leave spots on your cake papers too.

Also, I think you will void the warranty if you cut paper with your Cricut Cake.

What is a Cricut Cartridge?

I’m addicted to scrapbooking, but for whatever reason I have never heard of a Cricut Cartridge machince before. Trying to do some research on the internet, looks like this machine that you can print out patterns? What is it, what is it used best for, and is it really worth spending almost $300 for all the supplies?

Cricut machines use pattern cartridges. They allow you to cut out alphabets and designs in many sizes for scrapbooking. There are many options of designs. If you are a heavy scrapbooker or plan to become one I would say yes, invest. I myself would love to have one but don’t scrapbook that much. Go to the Cricut website to learn more.

Cricut tools question?

I recently purchased a Cricut die cutter. I am wondering if I need to purchase the tool kit to go with it.

When I looked at the nearly $30 tool kit for the Cricut, the tools seemed to be common, much like ones I already have in my scrapbooking supplies, with the exception of the mat scrapper. Does anyone own these tools, and can one get along without purchasing them?

but I wouldn’t buy the whole kit. I have it, and there are only two tools in it that I use. The first is the spatula, which can be purchased separately. The second is the tool that looks like a dental pick with a point on the end. I use that for punching out the small pieces in the centers of designs. You can purchase a needle tool that would work almost as well. It would just be a little less sturdy. Or, ask your dentist what he/she does with their old tools – sometimes they will let you have one. (Yep, I worked for a dentist, and they do get rid of old tools on occasion – just tell them what you want it for.)

The other things in the tool kit; scissors, ruler, etc…. you’re right – you probably do already have them and you really don’t need them. My husband bought me the kit — I would have passed on it.
