scrapbooking questions…?

a. approximately how much money do you spend making one scrapbook?

b. whats the best place to get inexpensive, but nice materials?

c. does anyone know of a good beginner’s scrapbooking kit with most of the materials i would need?

you dont need to answer all of my questions, any help is appreciated =]]

Cost depends on where you go. Hobby Lobby is the best place to go, if you have one near you. They have frequent sales, so wait for things to go 50% off.

Another place to try is the Dollar Tree. I get my adhesive there, as well as some paper and embellishments. They even have cardstock. Each store varies, and us scrapbookers clean them out often.

Big Lots also carries scrapbook supplies, and is a good place to get some of the designer stuff at a cheaper price. But again, scrapbookers clean them out too.

Mostly, if I want something specific, I go to my local scrapbook store, or online scrapbook store, like www.tallyscrapper.com and purchase them there. This is usually for "New" stuff, latest designs, etc. Tallyscrapper is great ’cause you can earn free product by getting points from others. I have gotten tons free there.

Hobby Lobby carries kits, with everything you need to start. Tool wise, you need a 12 inch trimmer (fiskers is good), a good pair of sharp scissors, adhesive, both wet and dry, pencil, and a ruler. Other tools are added bonuses, but you don’t "need" them.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I can give you some more online sites that carry quality stuff at cheap prices.

Digital Scrapbooking with Photoshop Elements?

I enjoy creating digital scrapbook layouts with Photoshop Elements using downloaded kits. However, I want to learn how to "recolor" an element from one kit to match the background color from another kit.

Can anyone help me?

You can find PSE wizards on the 2 peas in a bucket message board under digital scrapping. Go to www.twopeasinabucket.com

How should I go about starting up a new hobby – Scrapbooking?

I asked for scrapbooking things for Christmas..yes, I know it’s JUNE! LOL I received some paper, stickers, a baby bok kit and a nice printer to print out pictures from my camera. I’m a bit overwhelmed!! How do I start??? What kind of cutting things do I need? I really want to start, but I have no idea how to do it. =)

There are a ton of websites that can help you out with this. There are a few basic supplies that you will need:
Album and sheet protectors
Scissors or paper trimmer – you can get by with just a good pair of scissors but it is much much easier with a trimmer. You can get a decent one for 10.00 at walmart
Adhesive – you can use a basic glue stick, but invest a couple dollars in a scrapbook adhesive (walmart again) and you will be happier.
A good pen or computer fonts to do your journaling.

The main thing to remember is that you are doing this for yourself/children, not to impress everyone with your pages. That is great, but don’t stress yourself with it. Just have fun.

If you are looking for basics, find a creative memories class, you don’t have to buy anything. Also try looking for ideas at www.scrapjazz.com or www.splitcoaststampers.com Good luck, you will love this great, but addicting hobby!

Is Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro better for photography and graphic/web design?

I am a photographer and a beginning graphic designer, and am trying to decide between purchasing Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. I do blog/web design and would also like to try my hand at creating digital scrapbooking kits, vectors, and other graphics too. In addition to that I’d like to be able to edit my photos. Which would you recommend? Thanks :)

PS: Cost doesn’t make a difference as I am a student and they would cost within 100$ of each other with the student discount.

The program are so similar in there ability that which is "better" is a matter of personal choice. Have worked with both and prefer Paint Shop Pro myself. (But then, I was using it before Photoshop so it seems to be the one that works "right" and Photoshop works "wrong".)

Phototshop probably has more support. You will be able to find more tutorials and more add-ons because it is the older program and so has a larger installed user base. Paint Shop was a free shareware for many years until Corel purchased it at version 10. They then "updated" it to make it more like Photoshop.

A third alternative is the free program GIMP. Originally designed as a Photoshop clone for the Linux world, it has recently been ported over to the PC. It can do everything that either photoshop or paint shop pro can do, only it is free. Even if you decide to eventually go with one of the others, I would give GIMP a try. At the worst, you will hate it and then you just uninstall it.

If you are serious about web design, you might want to consider illustrator. Made by Adobe (makers of photoshop) it includes all the graphic features of Photoshop but also includes a lot of extras specifically for doing web page design. It allows you to create both the graphic and the web page in a single application.

How do I download scrapbook kits from ANYWHERE on the web to Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 for MAC?

I have recently downloaded Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 for MAC to use for digital scrapbooking. There are so many websites that you can buy scrapbooking kits, paper, clipart, etc. from.
I cannot figure out how to add the kits and paper that I have bought already to the stock images and paper on Adobe Photoshop Elements 6. I can’t seem to find a way to import them.
The whole reason I downloaded this program was because I was told that "Elements" had this capability. I need a program that let’s me pull paper and kits from anywhere on the web not just product from the company that made the program.
Thanks for any and all help!

First, after you have downloaded the zip files with the digital scrapbook kits, have you unzipped the kits?

Make sure you unzip the kits to a folder that you can remember later.

Then call up Photoshop Elements. Click open. Then browse to find one of the JPEG or PNG files that you’ve downloaded. Open the file. Copy the file, then paste it onto a new file that will be your scrapbook page canvas.

Make sure you set your canvas for a scrapbook page at 300 pixels per inch.

Scrapbooking- should I convert to 12×12?

Okay, so I have been buying the 20 dollar scrapbooking kits at walmart because I like the binder- it is just a 3 ring binder- and it comes with paper and stuff. But, when I want to buy paper at the craft store they really only carry 12×12. They have some 8 1/2 x11 but not much.

So, here is what is stopping me. There are only postbound albums. I have only had one, but it seemed like the pages were hard to open, they wouldnt lay flat.

What works well? WHat have you tried?

ps- I am not really into this. I do holidays and vacations and such. I make about 50 pages a year. I am not super into embellishments and such.

I used to teach scrapbooking at Michaels and what I recommended to most people is buy the 12 by 12 post bound scrap book but them for like $4.00 you can get a snap load adapter kit. The posts are unstable especially when you extend them but the snap load is essentially a plastic piece looking similar to a flattened zip tie that makes changing pages and binding your book super simple!
