I want to make a scrapbook for my grandma for Christmas, the only problem is, I have no ides how to do it. I was thinking a page for each grandkid, a page for her and my grandpa, a page for each of her children, and some family pictures. Is there anything else I should put in the book? What materials do I use?
Thanks.
My advice to the beginner is to look online at other people’s work, AND to buy scrapbook page kits. The kits have everything you need to make a page (or more than one in most cases) and will even give you some layout ideas for their specific product.
Hobby Lobby, if you have one in your area, often puts page kits on sale (you can check their weekly ad at www.hobbylobby.com). You can also print a coupon for their stores each week, which is often 40% off one item.
Another option is to find a local scrapbook store that has evening "crops" where you can go and work on your project with help from the experts, and have access to the items in the store (sometimes discounted for crop nights).
Sometimes you can find ready-made scrapbooks, where you just add pictures. You can also find ready-made pages online (ebay, etsy) that you can purchase and add pictures.
As for materials, the list is way too long! Nothing is barred from scrapbooks! If it is a material that will be in contact with your pictures, use acid-free, lignen-free materials (also known as archival safe). Otherwise, ribbons, fabric, buttons, brads, eyelets, zippers, recycled materials like pop tops, belt buckles, jeans pockets, dried or silk flowers, ticket stubs, price tags, staples, and more are all used to make fabulous scrapbooks.
THe most eye-appealing pages have 3-dimensional elements, like a safety pin holding a charm, for example. Anything that pops out of the page works.
Layering your papers and pictures also looks good (because it gives dimension and casts shadows on the page).
